Situated approximately 200 Km north east of Nairobi, is the great Mt. Kenya. Get ready for an exhilarating mountain climbing experience in Africa’s second highest mountain. The mountain has three main peaks, Nelion, Batian and Lenana. Batian is the highest peak of the three and is climbed by mountaineering enthusiasts and people advanced in rock climbing. Following closely is the Nelion peak that is also quite rocky meaning it can be quite challenging to climb if you lack rock climbing experience. Lastly, the Lenana peak. This peak is the most common peak that most people on safari like to climb since it requires no technical climbing skill. You need to have physical fitness however, since the routes used to ascend to the peak can be quite challenging.
There are five different routes that are used to access the peaks and each route reach different peaks of the mountain. The temperatures in Mount Kenya are also quite conducive for the activity. It is usually warm and sunny during the day but the temperatures gradually drop at night. Therefore, one is encouraged to carry appropriate clothing for both times, that is, light clothing during the day and warm clothing for the night. Do not also forget to carry comfortable hiking shoes, the routes can be quite steep and rocky!
